TV,molvis and scientists

Ridiculing the molvis/Mullahs is like a domestic hobby in Pakistan. One can’t be considered educated and broadminded if he/she don’t curse molvis.
Many of you would have heard others to make fun of molvis or curse them because molvis always called TV as “Haraam” and evil stuff. Then you would have met people who would have tried their best to prove themselves educated by throwing up stuff like..These molvis are backwards. They just prefer to sit in Masjids or Madrassahs rather than adapting changes. I myself may not agree with these molvis because I think that TV as a medium could be used for positive things as well but these scholars and molvis always came up with arguments that current media trend is not healthy for people.
Anyways, the enlightened class always ignored people of religion by declaring them clerics hence backwards and moved on.
Yesterday I came across an Interesting study on Slashdot that how watching TV could steal few moments of your life.
From Guardian:
Every hour spent watching television each day increases the risk of dying from heart disease by almost a fifth, say scientists.
Couch potatoes were warned that their lifestyle also increased the risk of death from other causes including cancer.
People who spent hours watching television greatly increased the chances of dying early from heart attacks and strokes, researchers in Australia found. Compared with those watching less than two hours of TV, people who sat in front of the box for more than four hours a day were 80% more likely to die for reasons linked to heart and artery disease.
New Scientist reports that watching TV in early stages could cause attention problems in adolescence.
Another report which is very dangerous that kids who watch so much TV could suffer from Asthema.
I know families where there are no TV sets and yet they are not suffering from any kind of infeririorty complex. They do this because they consider it a gateway of suffering and sorrows. Today scientists proved how TV could be the reason of various diseases in our family members. I am one of those who say,”Don’t curse the tool, curse the user” but honestly speaking it does not apply everywhere, specially on TV. The religious scholars would have called it Haraam for various reasons which might appear irrelevant to you but if you think deeper, you would find out that the reasons given by Molvis are actually causing the diseases identified by scientists. TV is asked to avoid due to lust of watching Haram(na-mahrams women or men) and we usually spend hours in front of TV just for sake of movies or songs. Sometimes we love to watch models and feel *happy*. Islam had summed up all and declared it Haram. Maybe it was so unusual for people of logic who try to run away from faith hence reject all such orders but now when Science is also backing molvis then such illiterate intellectuals might like to ponder on this serious issue.
So, try to avoid discourage TV in your family as much as you can. Not for a molvi but for your own family. May Allah guide us and save us from such half-baked modern Muslims who try to mould Islam according to their own needs.Ameen

Yar laley, some molvis make fun of themselves e.g. escaping in female outfits etc.
If this is the reason why TV is haraam, then libraries should be haraam too.
And watching vulgarity should be haraam, not TV. Otherwise books are haraam, magazines are haraam, pictures are haraam, even writings are haraam, as there can be vulgar books, vulgar magazines, and vulgar writings too. Even thinking and imaginations (like that of these kind of molvis who only think of TV as a box of vulgarity…shame on them) should be haraam, as you can bring vulgar thoughts in your mind.
Thanks for enlightening the readers with your bright and intellectual writing.

@Pakiboy: O boy where had you been hibernating? I thought you were in some Rehab but your current comment disappointed me. You’re still suffering from Mullah phobia despite of my free advice that such phobia could kill you some day.
Read again what I have written and yes anything which is vulgar could be harmful, even a vulgar comment but the problem is that TV viewership is more than book readers.
And I clearly mentioned that now your peer(some scientist) also have advised that TV is harmful so it’s good for you not to stay up night for watching movie. Go to bed early so that you can go school on time. *grin*

Adnan bhai, you wrote: “TV viewership is more than book readers.”
So you are trying to tell that before the invention of TV, or a few decades ago, when book reading was more than TV viewing, the books were haraam too. But why molvis didn’t declare them so?
Then you wrote:
“And I clearly mentioned that now your peer(some scientist) also have advised that TV is harmful so it’s good for you not to stay up night for watching movie.”
Doesn’t same argument goes for books, or reading book on a sofa till late night is harmful and “HgHaraam”?

Paki Boy, I don’t prefer to feed trolls but since you’re still in your infant age so it’s my duty to help you to learn about world facts.
yes, as long as things are harming someone physically and morally and not allowed in the Islam and the person is a Muslim then it’s sure Haram. Islam was not around in stone age but if someone was going to use stone to harm other or himself then Islam was going to declare that act Haram too.
Hope my answer helps you, if not then google a bit about the matter and follow the link of research I mentioned above. As I said,I won’t be helpful to feeding you further.
p.s: The time you waste to troll here,if you prefer to spend the time to learn new things then it will be helpful for you and your family.

Dear Adnan,
I stumbled upon your blog and was pleased for a moment to see a fellow Karachite blogger. It is not likely that I will revisit again but I would like to leave a few words behind.
1- It is never okay to distort facts. Any distortion or misrepresentation actually hurts your cause. Think about this: do you think God needs misrepresentations in His path? If not, then what do you think can be gained by that? The study you linked clearly points to the harmful effect of TV’s overuse, which they defined as more than two hours of watching. Sounds reasonable as anything in excess can be harmful. But how does this support your conclusion that TV is harmful and should be avoided as much as possible?
2- It is never okay to disrespect others. It is utmost important for everyone, perhaps even more so for a writer, to be humble and respectful of others’ opinions. Your treatment of “Pakiboy” leaves a lot to be desired.
Best,
Random

Hello Random Surfer, welcome to my blog.
“So, try to avoid discourage TV in your family as much as you can. Not for a molvi but for your own family”
I am surprised you did not read the above para. I doubt you have even the link I mentioned above. Keep the Islam aside, the study says that its harmful for “EveryOne” not for “Muslims Only”. The reason I mentioned Islam because following the religion could already save us from many problems.
AS far as responding the other reader,he’s kind of regular visitor of my blog and I do know his mindset and why does he visit the site,if rejecting his statements which are offensive towards a religion is kind of disrespect then I think I am happy with it. Unlike so called enlightened people I don’t censor his post which is the proof that I never rejected his point of view and he was given full chance to express his point of view. Kindly go thru the blog first and then comment. You might “not be reading” it but maybe you will come back to read it.
