Burqa Brigade in common rooms?
Thursday, October 30, 2008 at 2:42 pm
Reading Zainab on various forums is always like a treat. Whether it’s her own cricket blog or Karachi metblog or now in Spider mag or Dawn, she has always impressed me with her writings.
Today I came to know about her response to a news report via Facebook in which it was claimed that common rooms have been hijacked by Burqa clad women at KU. I don’t want to spoil her response by adding my own thoughts. She has said it way better than any one else could response to that crackpot reporder who would be another so called product of enlightenment and moderaton. The piece I loved more is:
Writing about ‘burqa brigades taking over’ any particular place on university campuses is much more juicy and catchy a subject than writing about the habitual intimidating and threatening attitude of male student union members. After all, in this day an age of the war on terror, it is fashionable for journalists to go on a tirade against anything that is even remotely associated with religion or dare I say extremism.
As I always say that extremism by left wing is not less pathetic than right wing of Pakistan. Criticising Zia in Pakistan is as hot as crticizing Sarah Palin in US. Ironically Zia is the source of earning for people like him who blame Zia if their kids pee in pants.
Today Islamophobia exists more in Muslim states than any non-Muslim country. A muslim man who wants to keep beard, keeps shalwar above ankle will be crticized more in Pakistan than any Western country. Being a Hijabi woman means you have enough courage to tolerate hurting words by strangers like that ignorant reporter as well as family.Interestring part is that most of critiques are those who don’t like to miss any chance to preach freedom of expression and open-mindness. Yeah right!
Well done little sis! you have written an excellent pieace or as I replied her on facebook, she bowled an awesome yorker.

*Shah sai barh kar shah kai wafadar*
Under the umbrella of *enlightened moderation*, this horde multiplied big times.
These sick souls got even more miserable when their ‘dad’ Mush was kicked out from office by none other than their own ‘religious brothers’.

At least our father figure as you portray him held an office..he also held one of your sorry asses defense all his life…he did not sit on the fence like you do criticizing any that dare to differ from your psuedo religious b.s i will shut up when one of you is ever voted into office…it is then that it will be apparent who is in the majority till then though have fun playing with your suicide belt. That’s about all your “brigade” has achieved the art of self destruction. Tell’s you a bit about your own phyce does it not?

Very good news! All power to these women. InshaAllah, they’re doing it for the sake of Allah and they’ll remain steadfast.
Well said, check this!

Adnan, u have touched the very core of internal conflict that i have been witnessing myself. The situation has become so threatening that just practicing Islam in Muslim country like Pakistan comes with criticism more from the fellow Pakistanis rather than others…
sad circumstances, sadder people’s frame of mind
Freedom of speech… these pseudo-secular ‘forward’ people are the most narrow-minded of all individuals i have ever met

As you people talked about ‘enlightened moderation’ of Mush.If a person can say proudly that his mother was a dancer and they/he loved to see her dancing.
Just what else can one expect from him!

A few filthy craps cant stop a large number of ppl doing good deeds. These a very few in number but since they are being promoted by media, it looks as if criticism is too much. Reality is quite different. Ppl respect the religous persons and will continue to respect them.
@MA hussain: did he wear any thing? i thought he is fond of being nude all the time.

MA Hussain, that was my mistake that I overlooked it because it was written in last. If you notice I have removed his comment as well.
Point is, if one is being abusive then it doesnt mean other seek excuses to do same thing otherwise there is no reason to preach others.
Thanks

Asalam U A’likum
JazakALLAH hu Khaira for such a good news
i didnt think there are people with this approch on internet mostly are from rich families who dont even know what islam is. they comment like faisal did after reading such news .i think its a trend to critisie people who are trying to follow the deen of ALLAH . in a gathering if you dont criticize them you will be consider backward etc. i think these people are rationalizing their self by criticizing others because they their self know that what the other is doing is right and since they dont want to do so they criticize before we criticize them
