  1. “King Gyanendra of Nepal like Musharraf was given to abusing the constitution and the judiciary to legitimise his grip on the throne. Both seized power forcibly. Both asked for three years to restore democracy. Musharraf set up his National Accountability Bureau to fix the politician, the King set up the Royal Commission for Corruption Control. Both of their zeal to weed out corruption was directed towards prosecuting opposition politicians and only those who remain unwilling to play ball with them. Musharraf promulgated the Legal Framework Order to govern, the King ruled by ordinances. Musharraf manipulated the Supreme Court; the King did the same. Musharraf seized power in an extra-constitutional manner; the King’s political intervention was involved on two specific constitutional grounds. Musharraf talks of ‘enlightened moderation’, the King talked of 21st century idealism. Musharraf promised “real” democracy, the King talked of constructive democracy. Musharraf talks of fighting a war on terrorism, and the king had also made similar claims. In short, Musharraf Inc. seems to have the manuals for authoritarian take-over and King Gyanendra consulted it! The King had assumed total power in 2005, but the nation-wide uprising in Nepal burst out in Feb 2006, when he tried to hold ‘rigged’ elections. All sections of Nepalese society came togather and seeing the people’s revolt, even the King’s allies like India and U.S. adopted a ‘people first’ policy. Just as the King of Nepal never realized the impact of his brutal actions, Musharraf may also face a similar fate with the people of Pakistan, insha’allah. Maybe the time has come for Musharraf to recognize the dreadful consequences of his tyrannical actions.”
